Our next masterpieces are coming soon

Hi Bruce,

I hope you are doing well.

To follow up on our discussion regarding scanner precision, it is important to note that a smaller accuracy rating leads to significantly more precise corners and details. The difference between 0.015 mm and 0.02 mm is actually quite substantial in practice.

Typically, this level of detail is not achievable with handheld scanners, as they require a completely still environment free of any vibrations to function effectively at that resolution. Generally, this level of precision is only seen in stationary systems, such as the Artec Micro, which remain unmovable to achieve such results. Furthermore, because this level of accuracy produces very large file sizes, it is typically reserved for scanning very small objects.

I look forward to sharing more specific technical specifications and results during my showcase next week.

Regarding the future of 3D scanning technology I wanted to share some detailed thoughts on the technical challenges .

Current Android systems lack the significant computing power required for this level of technology, making a near-term implementation unlikely. Attempting to integrate high-performance components like CUDA GPUs or heavy-duty CPUs presents major hurdles in terms of power consumption and thermal management.

Effectively, we would be trying to fit the power of a laptop into a scanner-sized enclosure, which would likely result in less than 30 minutes of runtime and a price point that is prohibitive for the average consumer.

For a 3D laser scanner to be effective, it needs a high density of laser lines and a high frame rate, ideally around 80 fps. To make such a device truly wireless and portable, we would need a substantial power source. However, current battery limitations mean these devices would be difficult to ship via air or take on a plane, and a 30-minute operational window is simply not practical for professional use.

While I believe we may have reached the maximum accuracy possible for the MetroY series and handheld scanners in general, I am very interested in exploring different technologies. I would love to see more development in LIDAR or commercial-grade solutions similar to the drone-mounted scanners Revopoint produced previously for building inspections.

Anyway thank you for your feedback , I look forward to hearing your thoughts on where w
Rebopoint should focus their hardware improvements next.

Happy Holiday’s & Happy Easter everyone , I am off to celebrate. See you on Monday !
