New POP 4 firmware is out!

In case you haven’t seen, must’ve just came out overnight, can now do laser scanning with no markers as long as there enough featured colors in sight. Just scanned my black computer mouse, fps was lower but work great!

Hi @ugpfpv

It need still to collect color data so can’t be as fast as regular laser mode

For now…

Did I understand correctly? Are you referring to texture (RGB) data? Or are you talking about geometry captured using an infrared pattern?

Yes its rgb color tracking

It uses the camera to track color while the laser does the scanning, so as long as there’s enough color varieties for tracking you don’t need markers. At least that’s how I think it works, but yes you can laser scan without markers in certain situations.

Would be great if scanning spray came in different colors, that way we could spray the items with an array of different colors for it to track

An interesting approach; all other competitors rely on data from an infrared pattern. With this method, they should also add it to the Metro series, as those devices lack infrared sensors and emitters entirely.

Hi @Yan

It is RGB color tracking , so unique pattern is used for tracking, it don’t matter if it is a risk color or black and white , however it is recommended to have some environment controlled lighting and do not scan in complete darkness when using this method.

Yes, that would be great , hopefully when all the software merge into one solid program there will be much more possibilities, however it is of course possible as long there is an RGB camera.

Regarding the other companies I was slightly skeptical about that infrared , because infrared still need geometry , so that is exactly why we want laser scanner and not full Field to scan everything , slightly of subject and not really any improvement , if I can scan using
Full Field I don’t need laser.

With this method here , you can actually place some color dots across for tracking or even use markers .

When you use 3D spray color dots can help and they are cheap. I use color tracking for my my merging jobs in Cloud Compare if there is not much details or elements available. Or color markers if possible.

Just use some mini confetti :confetti_ball: on top :joy:
Just kidding .. couple of colorful dots will not only help tracking but also great to use as merging points in Cloud Compare. Amazon have very cheap mini color dots stickers. Cist so much less than actual Markers.
