My first Trackit scan

So this is my first Trackit scan. I have to admit, it takes up a lot more space than I was originally thinking. Granted, I am trying to scan something large. This is not the first time I have scanned this door. I tried with a Miraco and a MetroX but was unhappy with both those scans–even after using a full page of markers and every “marker block” in the Revo marker block pack. Trackit got it first try–after I sorted the distance between the scanner and the Trackit bar.

I am including photos of the scanned item/setup along with the results. Untouched/unedited. Yes, I don’t care about the glass missing in the middle. I just need the outside profile and the location of the through bolt holes.

Tip for big items. Rest the scanner at the nearest point on the item to be scanned and check the distance in the Trackit “Range” window. Then rest the scanner on the farthest point of the item to be scanned and check again. If it is still in range in the “Range” window, your Trackit bar is optimally placed and you are good to go. If this was mentioned in one of the tutorial videos, I must have missed it.

Hi Bruce, looks like you did an amazing job. Is that a tractor door? and thanks for the tip about setting up the correct distance :+1:

Nice scan!
I also check before every scan if I’m in the viewing window of the tracker, if I can do it in one go and if not I plan how I’ll do the scanning in multiple passes.
Most often you can optimise the placement and gain quite some time.

Wazza77, it is a door for a John Deere Gator with a hard top. This is the passenger side door, as the driver side had an unfortunate accident with a fence. The glass is not manufactured anymore by the company and finding replacements are impossible. I am going to make a new driver side door glass out of some acrylic on a cnc router.

It should work out well, and the curves aren’t too aggressive. I have seen it done on tractors down here, but our sun is so harsh that they only last a few years; it’s better than getting a mouthful of cane trash during the crushing season

The acrylic should be fine, as the Gator lives in a covered carport and it is mainly to keep us warm during the cold. During the summer, the doors are off.

Here is the finished outline with drill holes in Aspire. Now just need to order the material and get cutting.

Looking good, mate. Yeah, the beginning of spring here, and I think I might have worn my jumper for probably 4 hours this winter, otherwise it’s shorts and t-shirts. It will probably get down to 20 °C tonight, but on rare occasions, we can get a frost
