No time to do test scans as I had an urgent scan to make for a client so straight to it!
A few errors on my side during calibrating (forgot to put the mat under the tripods when doing the eye to eye calibration, it’s directed in the manual but not in the software) but otherwise it was easy to setup!
Then I’ve directly scanned three car bumpers, pictures below.
I didn’t bothered to do a multi position scan and re-orient the part. I did two scan for each parts and then aligned them in Revo Trackit software, no issues there!
So in the end absolutely no maker was used!
It takes a bit of time to get used on how to positionate yourself but otherwise if you’re used to laser scanners it’s really easy!
The scanner is quite lightweight as even after several hours of use my arm wasn’t too tired (but you obviously still do quite some gym during scanning!
The car parts where painted in a shiny/metallic red paint, I had to use spray to scan them, even in the shiny metallic object mode. But anyway using spray on shiny parts enhance the surface quality.
Did you found the Revo Trackit software on the USB ?
Remember that is just a temporary version to get you going , the full version will be available very soon in no time to unlock all the features in a day or two.
If it were back in the days when I was working out of ZUG I would be there
P.S. Fantastic job of the bumpers. I can hardly wait until my one turns up I cant show client scans but I have a few personal projects on the boil that should be interesting
Got an email from support (nice proactive support) telling me there will be a new release soon and to install this one instead of the one on the drive.
I’ll update once I got the notification the new version is ready.
New scan today.
I was presenting my company (3d scanning and printing service) at a local “Old Timer” event and the local Harley Davidson shop gave me a motor bike to scan for showing the scanner.
No real use in scanning a full motorbike but it was nice for the show.
I didn’t put a ton of effort as the scan has no real use and I didn’t want to do a multi position scan (too much time to reposition while talking to people).
You definitely need spray for chrome and shiny metallic paints of car/motor bike parts.
I think Shining even has a setup where they use a mirror and a glas to scan the top and bottom of feet at the same time (with merging of the two parts): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3_AhppnLVo
