Hi everyone,
I’m scanning dental stone casts for Grillz using a Revopoint MINI 2 and Revo Scan 5 (latest update), and I’m getting a consistent artifact in narrow interproximal gaps (see in pics)
Issue:
There is a real physical gap between two teeth on the cast I made (see in pic) but after processing (Fusion), Revo Scan 5 partially “bridges” the gap with a thin strip/film of mesh, as if it’s filling the space.
Setup / workflow:
MINI 2 in Geometry mode (color OFF)
Light, even coat of 3D scanning spray
Scanning distance kept within the “excellent” range
Workflow: Fusion → Isolation (15%) → Overlap detection (0.10 mm vertical) → Mesh Edit
Avoiding heavy smoothing (I need maximum accuracy for fit when working with teeth)
Questions:
-
Is interproximal “bridging” a known limitation of structured light scanning in deep/narrow gaps, or is there a setting/workflow to reduce it? Maybe I am scanning wrong ?
-
Any recommended settings for dental cast scanning to preserve small gaps/undercuts?
I have highlighted in red where the artificial gap is (not 100 processed yet) I am wondering if I should remove it in blender? But that might destroy scan of the tooth which has to be as accurate as possible
I am really new to this, have been searching the web and watching plenty of tutorials but really seen nothing on scanning teeth.
Super grateful for any help ![]()
