I’m having trouble configuring the preview in the Metro Mirror app on Android while using the MetroY PRO scanner.
My Setup:
Networking: The scanner creates its own Wi-Fi hotspot, which both my PC and Android phone are connected to.
Functionality: Scanning directly from the PC works perfectly.
Environment: Both devices are confirmed to be on the same network (the scanner’s hotspot).
Problem Description:
The Android app fails to detect the PC automatically. When I attempt to connect manually by entering the IP address (192.168.179.100), the app tries to connect for a moment and then displays the following error:
“Please make sure the correct ports are opened on the firewall.”
What I’ve checked so far:
Firewall: I completely disabled Windows Firewall—no change, the issue persists.
Connectivity Verification: To rule out AP Isolation (client isolation) on the scanner’s Wi-Fi, I ran a simple Python HTTP server on the PC. While connected to the scanner’s network, I was able to access the server via my phone’s browser without any issues.
This confirms that IP communication between the devices is functional and they can “see” each other, yet the Metro Mirror app still fails to establish a handshake.
My Questions:
Does anyone know the specific ports Metro Mirror uses? (The app/documentation doesn’t specify them).
Is there any other Windows service or setting (e.g., Network Profile, Public/Private discovery) that might block this specific app even when the firewall is off?
I would appreciate any suggestions or insights!
And I use windows 11 and samsung s24 with andorid 16
Please avoid to use any kind of servers , the connections requires simple WiFi connection to the scanner network .
I suspect Android 16 may get here in the way but you need to ask the technician for verification. Just send them the link to this thread for reference.
I sent an email. Let’s see what they say.
I also checked this on my old phone running Android 12, and it’s the same issue.
Besides, is it normal for the Wi-Fi connection to disconnect from time to time? Especially when switching modes, such as from marker scanning to feature scanning?
Sometimes I can’t even connect to the scanner’s Wi-Fi, and the only solution is to power cycle it (turn it off and on).
It works fine on Android 15 so it must be some reason in the computer system
The only reason the WiFi can disconnect is that the scanner WiFi has not Internet network and the Windows or Android system usually disconnect it , if not Internet is detected , you need to setup the connection to allow no Internet Network in your WiFi system settings, usually you get prompt asking if you want keep the connection .
If you have your own WiFi Internet Network set to automatic , usually it will switch automatic and disconnect from the scanner Network .
If for any other reason please include that in your Support ticket to check out with the technician.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that shouldn’t be the issue in my case. My PC actually has two network cards: I use a wired Ethernet connection for my daily internet access, and the WiFi card is normally unused. This means I can keep the WiFi dedicated solely to the scanner without worrying about the system switching back to another network for internet.
However, I will double-check if Windows isn’t doing something strange in the background by trying to ‘drop’ the WiFi connection simply because it detects no internet access, even though I’m primarily on cable. I’ll look into the system settings to see if I can force it to stay connected.
