I’m having trouble configuring the preview in the Metro Mirror app on Android while using the MetroY PRO scanner.
My Setup:
Networking: The scanner creates its own Wi-Fi hotspot, which both my PC and Android phone are connected to.
Functionality: Scanning directly from the PC works perfectly.
Environment: Both devices are confirmed to be on the same network (the scanner’s hotspot).
Problem Description:
The Android app fails to detect the PC automatically. When I attempt to connect manually by entering the IP address (192.168.179.100), the app tries to connect for a moment and then displays the following error:
“Please make sure the correct ports are opened on the firewall.”
What I’ve checked so far:
Firewall: I completely disabled Windows Firewall—no change, the issue persists.
Connectivity Verification: To rule out AP Isolation (client isolation) on the scanner’s Wi-Fi, I ran a simple Python HTTP server on the PC. While connected to the scanner’s network, I was able to access the server via my phone’s browser without any issues.
This confirms that IP communication between the devices is functional and they can “see” each other, yet the Metro Mirror app still fails to establish a handshake.
My Questions:
Does anyone know the specific ports Metro Mirror uses? (The app/documentation doesn’t specify them).
Is there any other Windows service or setting (e.g., Network Profile, Public/Private discovery) that might block this specific app even when the firewall is off?
I would appreciate any suggestions or insights!
And I use windows 11 and samsung s24 with andorid 16
Please avoid to use any kind of servers , the connections requires simple WiFi connection to the scanner network .
I suspect Android 16 may get here in the way but you need to ask the technician for verification. Just send them the link to this thread for reference.
I sent an email. Let’s see what they say.
I also checked this on my old phone running Android 12, and it’s the same issue.
Besides, is it normal for the Wi-Fi connection to disconnect from time to time? Especially when switching modes, such as from marker scanning to feature scanning?
Sometimes I can’t even connect to the scanner’s Wi-Fi, and the only solution is to power cycle it (turn it off and on).
It works fine on Android 15 so it must be some reason in the computer system
The only reason the WiFi can disconnect is that the scanner WiFi has not Internet network and the Windows or Android system usually disconnect it , if not Internet is detected , you need to setup the connection to allow no Internet Network in your WiFi system settings, usually you get prompt asking if you want keep the connection .
If you have your own WiFi Internet Network set to automatic , usually it will switch automatic and disconnect from the scanner Network .
If for any other reason please include that in your Support ticket to check out with the technician.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that shouldn’t be the issue in my case. My PC actually has two network cards: I use a wired Ethernet connection for my daily internet access, and the WiFi card is normally unused. This means I can keep the WiFi dedicated solely to the scanner without worrying about the system switching back to another network for internet.
However, I will double-check if Windows isn’t doing something strange in the background by trying to ‘drop’ the WiFi connection simply because it detects no internet access, even though I’m primarily on cable. I’ll look into the system settings to see if I can force it to stay connected.
Usually you get a quick prompt before it fall the connection , both in Windows and Android system , it may be not that but I just letting you know what I know just in case as that is one of the reason the system do in most case.
It may help you find some issues before the technician finds out.
Please make sure you also share that info with CS.
That is of course not the way for using the app, I will ask the dev. Team why some users have this problem , it would be easy if it did not worked for all but that is not the case , please contact customer@revopoint3d.com and report your issue as well .
I feel so silly now, but I wanted to share this in case anyone else makes the same mistake!
I incorrectly assumed that mirroring required Revo Metro on the PC and Revo Mirror only on the Android device. It wasn’t until the support team mentioned sending the Revo Mirror logs from the PC that it finally clicked: you need the Revo Mirror component installed on the PC as well.
After installing that missing piece, everything is working perfectly. A huge thank you to the customer service team for the quick response and for pointing me in the right direction!
I just hope that the rest of users having the same issue by skipping installing Revo Mirror on their PCs as well , that’s kinda funny but big props to you to mention it !
Thanks for mentioning.
For me this is not the issue as Revo Mirror is installed on both devices. Also, it works when both are connected to the home network, just no when connected to the scanners WIFI.
@bidek, Did you eventually change network settings or open ports and or firewall?
When I started troubleshooting, the first thing I did was disable the Windows Firewall entirely to rule it out. I also made sure that the scanner’s WiFi network profile is set to ‘Private’ rather than ‘Public’.
Regarding the connection dropping, I added a registry entry as a workaround, though I suspect this is a separate issue from the initial connection problem. I noticed my WiFi would disconnect on its own, so I applied this fix:
I did a quick test using the scanner’s own Access Point (the proper configuration) and it worked. I’m at work now, so I can’t run more tests yet, but in a few hours, I’ll re-enable the firewall to see if it breaks anything.
If you’re on Windows, definitely double-check that the scanner’s network profile is set to Private – that’s usually the main culprit for communication issues.
That is interesting because Revo Mirror was not designed to work this way in first place , please check out with the technician. They will check out your logs and find solution for you.
another problem showed up, when my laptop and phone connected to the same (home) wifi network Revo Mirror works, but when i conect both devices to the scanners wifi, cant find the laptop on my phone even by direct IP connection. (both shows conenction to scanners wifi). by this way the scanner cant be used wirelessly. Any one of you have succeeded using revo mirror through the scanners wifi link? Thanks!
solution (for me)
fixed the problem, i leave it here maybe can be useful for someone. first I had to disable the firewall in win 11 for private networks to work. To avoid disabling the entire firewall, adding port exceptions will fix it: TCP 47984, 47989 48010; UDP 48000, 48010, 47999, 47998. (Adding the whole executable to exceptions didnt work for me) also i had to confirm “stay connected even without internet acces” prompt on the phone (it didnt show being disconnected but looks like it was)
