Losing geometry when fusing raw data

Anybody can tell me, why I keep losing part of the scanned structure, when fusing the raw data to a point cloud? In the preview window the object seems pretty good covered with the 2000+ frames I captured (well, if not entirely, at least mostly). However, when fusing the scan huger parts of the covered areas will not be taken to the point cloud, but simply vanish.

The scan data don’t looks too good , too many lose points disconnected with each other , what mode did you used ?

Hi @PUTV. I used laser crossline mode. Over the weekend I learned that 2000 frames sounds like a lot (when you come from infrared), but indeed makes for incomplete results, when it comes to laser. I use much more now and that helps increase point density for interpolation of the point cloud. Patience is a virtue I still can improve on. :wink:

With laser mode try to get at least 8-10K to maximum 20K then you have enough , Full Field need 350 frames per one rotation , laser point frames are very small like hair wide , you need a lot of it . How more how smother will be the surface , I maximum use 30 K but that depends of the size of the object , you should be ok with around 10-15 K

Also when you finish cross line, pause and change to single line and capture the areas that have holes or deep reliefs.

What is your current speed in Laser mode ? (FPS)

I get like 15 FPS on a Intel Core i5-10210U with 32GB of RAM :confused:. I know that’s below recommendation and FPS is far from what POP 4 specs, but it’s the best I currently can do. After all I’m starting to get somewhere. This is a scan I took today from a 5" figurine without a lot of postprocessing. It’s a merge from 3 takes @ around 3.000 frames each with a mix of crossline and single line laser. The flat swords posed a special challenge and I have a feeling, too many overlays blur feature details. I think it’s a good starting point, but I still have to go a long way.
