Introducing the ScanBench V1 – The Benchy for 3D Scanners!

My dear Makers, greetings!
Here’s the first version of the ScanBench, a modular benchmark model I designed to test and compare the performance of 3D scanners

Inspired by the 3D printing Benchy, this tool helps evaluate your scanner’s:
accuracy,
depth and angle handling,
surface texture capture,
and geometric fidelity across various shapes.

The model is magnetic and upgradable, featuring 5 slots for 8×2 mm magnets to attach different add-on modules
Each zone focuses on a different scanning challenge — spheres, threads, holes, stairs, QR code, and more!

Note:
This is a 3D-printed model, so it’s not intended for metrology-level precision but rather to observe how your scanner reacts in real-world conditions.
It’s a great training and testing tool for anyone wanting to get better scan results :man_scientist:

Recommended print settings:

  • Layer height: 0.08 mm

  • Material: PLA or PETG

  • Add tracking markers to improve scanner alignment
For an extra challenge, try printing parts in different materials and colors (e.g. PETG transparent, Silk PLA shiny, matte black PLA) to test how your scanner handles varied reflections and textures!

Any constructive feedback is highly appreciated to help the project grow toward an even better V2

Live long and prosper — may the Scan be with you!
