Has the Range 2 been discontinued?

Visited https://www.revopoint3d.com/ and noticed that the Range 2 is not to be found.

Hi Jeff,

Range 2 is discontinued already.

But who need Range 2 when you have MIRACO that sells much better than Range 2 ever did.

Aww. I still use mine. I’m not sure I want to put the Miraco on the end of an extension pole.

The Range 2 has a much wider Field of View than the Miraco (almost 40%) and this can make a major difference in the ease of scanning with Feature Mode tracking.

The Range 2 is still available on Revopoint’s Amazon store. But it does say only 6 are left.

It is no more in production Jeff.
Nothing I can do about.

The Range 2 have 0.1 mm accuracy at 40 cm distance.
Frame size at that distance is: 220 mm x 425 mm

Don’t look at the frame size. Look what accuracy it offers at that frame size. Usually nobody is interested in having accuracy lower than 0.1 mm especially in reverse engineering.

At 130 cm distance that is POP1 quality at 0.3 mm accuracy or worse

I still use my Range 0 ( never released prototype) as well , but not for reverse engineering as it accuracy is too low for that but great for other stuff , it can also capture things at 6 feet distance but the quality at that distance is very bad.

I use my MIRACO on a long mono pod , very sturdy for 6 KG equipment.

Is that lateral accuracy or depth?

It is the accuracy of every scanner using this technology at the closest distance once the scanner pass it’s “Excellent” distance where Range 2 is at 40cm, the accuracy get affected.
For that reason MIRACO Far mode distance was shortened to provide workable and usable results.

Hi Cath! A bit off topic, but do you mind sharing that mentioned monopod that you use with the Miraco :face_without_mouth: TIA!

Hi Ivan ,

No problem here you go , I use it almost for a decade now.

Not what I was expecting for use with a Miraco.

What are your use cases?

That is normal with this technology used by the scanners and not really a secret either starting with POP to MetroY Pro , same technology, nothing really changed since the last 26 years. Beside MIRACO Plus as that is something else…

That why you have MIRACO Plus that allows you to ignore that and scan the small and big details at maximum distance without loosing the accuracy regardless you are at 20 cm distance or 40 cm.

Any other structured light 3D scanner will have the best accuracy only at it’s closest ( excellent) distance , how far you go how less it is no matter what you are scanning.

I will sell you mine. It’s is very lightly used. Probably less than 4 power on hours.

I forgot to mention: I am in the USA.

I have a Range 1 and have got great scans with it, the range 2 would have been slightly better for me due to its larger FOV, but the range 1 got the job done for me with hard to scan objects.

It is a shame that the range 2 has been discontinued, i think that being an entry level scanner it attracted many buyers with no scanning experience, and some left not so good reviews for the scanner when it was not the scanner at fault but user error/inexperience. Many people on this forum have gotten consistently great scans with the range 1+2 scanners. but I guess time has moved on, the Track-it scanner looks like its really a jump up in level.

The main reason why I loved my Range scanner so much is that it let me get great scans with using my smartphone, and post processing on my very midiocre spec laptop was possible. Any other scanner on the market to scan what i needed to scan would have required me to have purchased a new high spec laptop. Also the things I was scanning it was extremely useful to have the smartphone screen infront of me while scanning.

The reason why MIRACO series was created to eliminate phones and laptops made it more portable .

I still love Range series , they were great scanners to begin with , just after release of MIRACO not more as popular by people and for that reason discounted in production.

Anybody still interesting Ranger 2 is still available on Amazon USA
