Improved merging? Nice, let’s do a quick test!

Previous version: huge line on the side of this scan after merging two halves, despite using the overlap tool. Noisy surface in certain areas (of course, this could be smoothed out).
Another attempt gave me a similar artifact (recessed area on another part of the scan, surrounded by the same kind of “breaking line”)

5.2.3: same scan but I reprocessed each step, since your advice in another thread is to fuse the projects again after installing this update.

Here’s the result : the seam is gone. Completely gone.
And the noise issue also improved a lot.

I’ll do more tests but so far, so good!

Thanks @shadows44 it works in 95% of cases . It is already better … however when hand scanned I experienced some difficulty in merging , maybe was just a glitch … can you make handheld scan and merge both parts ? Thanks!

Yes, I’ll try that!
This one was “semi-handheld” : scanned object on the turntable, and I was holding and moving the scanner by hand.

Hi, I have not used the software in a few months. I just downloaded v5.2.3 and installed it. Am I missing a change in the in the workflow? I used to be able to select extraneous points in the raw scan and delete them, then do the fusion. Has that option been replaced by the “one click edit”?

You were never able to select points in raw, only in fused.
Select fuse and after that you can edit the pointcloud

You need to fuse your point cloud before you can edit it , RAW is just virtual preview of the data , not editable file and as @X3msnake mentioned it never was available in early versions of Revo Studio .

The workflow is the same once you fuse your point cloud …
One click option is lower level processing , please use manual processing for higher quality .

Check the forum Tutorial section for tutorial regarding the new software and new workflow .

Sweet. Hoping this is more alignment iterations and/or better normals comparisons and not just the software auto-cropping outlying points!

Still need some frame-level editing, but appreciate the work Revo is putting into regular software updates. Shows they caređź‘Ť

This was an emergency update for fusing and merging of the partial scans and nothing else at this moment .
Any other features and bug fixation will be added in own time when it is ready.

So does that mean it’s not realigning the misaligned data and is cropping out instead?

I don’t expect Revo to push through unfinished features, but manual frame realignment, and frame-level editing need to be high on the feature priority list.

They’re two software features that push the systems from hobbyist/prosumer into the professional realm.

(Speaking as someone with 25 years in the 3Dscanning profession )

I am not sure I understand what you mean here , this update is to fix a bug that prevented merging the scans proper , not old bug or new feature , just a glitch that was missed I preview update …

A new hardware like POP3 and INSPIRE have additional hardware to deal with bad aligment of the frame cells while scanning , that are due to shaking or too fast moving of the scanner , or slow system or not enough object features that are the major issue of that problem to begin with .
It is not just a software , in 95% the fault of usage …

I am scanning so much using all Revopoint products , and testing them out … I know if a scan have a bug , or a software or an object that I am scanning … on top with 25 years of professional experiences running my own company , I know one thing or too as well …

The Manual Frame editing function is already added to the to do list … there are lots of other features that need to be done first as they are crucial … sadly it is not going fast enough , but the priority is always set on highest level .

Look where the software was one year ago and where it is now , it is a great improvement so far in so short time , all original codes , not borrowed not licensed, that why Revopoint keep it free …but it take some time to devenlope.
Other professional software costs more per month than the scanner itself … we don’t want go there , everything need time …

They don’t build Rome over night after all …

your suggestions was already mentioned not once , so the dev.team is aware of it and they working on that … give it a little time , you cant push it … but of course we want it for yesterday …

If you need frame editing now (the ability to ignore frames, not realign them) you can try my opensource Revoscan Flayer (Frame Player) it is good to view the capture session as a video and flag the frames to be ignored in the system.

here is a example where i singled out the blinking eyes of the model during a scan session and avoided bad mesh

I’ve done a quick test with handheld scans, looks like the result is ok too. What kind of issue are you experiencing? Inaccurate merging? Artifacts afterwards?

Me ? I don’t have any issues … I just waiting for a new features …

Maybe I misunderstood, but above you seemed to stumble into a few issues from time to time:
