What am I doing wrong? Merge doesn't align

See attached image. Even manually selecting markers, they don’t actual align themselves - they’re offset. 1 on the one model doesn’t go where 1 is on the other model.

Clearly offset on the merged model, despite them not be when I manually do them on each model.

Not much can I help you here , but you can change the scans and use the blue as 1 and the yellow as 2 and try again .

The algorithms get confused by the symmetrical object not to mention the not so good surface on the scans make it more difficult to register.

In this case it is a trial and error , not enough unique points don’t helps either .

Point 4 seems off.

Also try to get the points far away from each other. Doing the 3 on the same side can throw things off.

Thanks for the reply. They’re all exactly the same spot when clicking manually, but in the joined image it looks off - as they all are.

I’ll try now with choosing points further apart from each other.

4 Points chosen, on 4 different faces as such. So plenty of distance between them. Exactly the same results.

Swapping them around and spending 10 minutes choosing different markers has had some success, not perfect but closer. Gives me some hope, although frustrating…

Sometimes scanning different angle helps to get better results , in place top and bottom , trying to scan side and side . And paying attention to the surface so it don’t have too much artifacts that don’t belongs on the object or any other part that don’t belongs , helps to archive better results .

Or you can scan just the top for reference and then merge the sides scans to it . It is difficult to give you a tip without actually doing it as each object needs own unique approach.

As I said before Trial and Error situation .
If you interested you can try a free software called Cloud Compare and use manual merge with difficult to merge objects/scans that lacking specific features. It is more advanced point cloud editing software , worth checking out !
