Warhammer 40K Nemesis Dreadknight Scan with Trackit

I bought some WH 40K stuff long time ago when I joined Revopoint for Video production, but this one Nemesis Dreadknight is just too hard to scan, until I have THE Trackit. Well let’s see the results then I’ll talk about the process.

The reason it is hard to scan is obvious, all the armor plates and the wiring grow like a tree! So I need to scan it from all directions: front, back, sides, with tilting up and down. That’s why I put it on a small table instead of a big one, because The Trackit Scanner has a robust frame, that’s preventing me from Scanning from a below angle if I put the object on a large table. Also aim the narrow side to the Tracker.

I set the target point distance at 0.2mm. The smaller this number is, the longer the point cloud takes to turn green, which means longer scanning time, more frames, and you should fuse with a smaller point distance too, which eventuall lead to better details

Or say if you preset it at 3mm, the preview just go green so fast, which end up with much bigger suggested fusing point distance and finally, a softer mesh.

So, smaller item, rich detail, set smaller target point distance, it gets green slower, software suggests smaller fusion point distance and end up with better details.

Bigger item, less detail, set bigger target point distance, it gets green faster, software suggests bigger fusion point distance and eventually, less details.

Next is how I deal this the black wire tubes, this is just very hard to scan, physically hard and there is nothing we can do about it with Scanner hardware & software.

And I simply applied some scanning spray on it, or I could increase the exposure and do more work around it.
Btw, this is the scanning spray I was using for this scenario, small bottle, smell like toothpaste, only sprays very little amount on certain area. Very good for temporary and small area spraying. We haven’t put this on shelf yet, since it is a bit expensive for the only 200ml Net Volume. Let me know if you want it in the comments.

The front side of the sword is messy, this is because I accidentally knock the table with my scanner, I hardly noticed any shake, but in fact, any insignificant shock will affect you scan with the Trackit, so do prevent that.

Ok finally, a video showing all in and out:
