Total newbie with a scanner

I recently bought a Metrox, just because i tought it could be fun to try out.
I noticed something today that i hadn’t noticed before. when i scanned at garage remote today, i did it in both laser and turntable mode. I was under the impression that laser mode was the one with the most detailed scans, but it turned out that turntable mode had much more detail, so could someone please explain that to me and again im a beginner.

Hi @SubZero

The Auto mode use different technology to scan the object, it uses also single shot big frame that capture precisely the surface or the angle at once and avoid shaking and shifting , so it perfectly get all the details in faster process using structured light technology.

Laser mode have a very tiny frames and you need to capture at least 8000 frames to capture the surface to get good results but as always laser scanning is time consuming .

There are advantages of using laser mode or structured light mode in different applications to scanning different objects.

Auto mode usually used to scan very small objects, very the precision and accuracy with small objects is required.

Laser mode are great for scanning difficult to scan objects with less features , or hard to scan materials

Feature Full Field mode allows to scan faster big objects but not all materials are friendly .

So in total you have 4 modes for different jobs.

If you need more specific info let me know

Make sure you use the last software version and minimal system requirements.
The latest version uses GPU acceleration for faster capture of frames using laser mode, you can activate it in the setting in the top upper right corner of the software.
