Scaner Miraco Plus, Far mode, night time scanning. I make 4 scans… Merged point cloud is It looks great. But after building the mesh, it starts to look just awful. A lot of garbage gets out. The system offers a Fusion of 0.65-0.67 mm. I tried the suggested ones, I tried to reduce it to 0.7. I built a mesh of 0.8 and 1.01, but the result is the same.
1: The point cloud is sort of “inflated” because the points are oversized simply to be able to be seen. Some software (like Cloud Compare) allows you to set the size of the points, but Revoscan does not. IMHO the point size is just a tad too big most of the time (it’s been worse in other versions though). This can obscure frames that are misaligned by a small amount.
2: The viewer shows a “preview” that is not all the points.
You can probably find the offending frame(s) and delete them in the Edit Keyframe mode. Also, always keep a backup copy of the project if you intend to use Edit Keyframe mode.
This size can go to 2.0 or even 3.0 for meshing ( Grid settings )
Make sure you clean the Fuses point cloud from everything that there should be not , overlapped to lose points on full range , not just the recommended settings.
Try to get lower meshing or use Smooth brush to clean the areas after meshing .
Scanning is one thing , 3D editing and cleaning another , that why scanning service is very expensive because of the fine cleaning what is time consuming .
I’ve tried many different options, but more and more it looks like problems with combining. More precisely, with the distortion of geometry. I have observed these stripes on the edges of the scans during stitching on many scans.
The stipes on the edges are everywhere no matter what scan and usually you need to trim it off before merge , that is the proper procedure before merging no matter what scanner you use , the edges are bad because there is not enough data captured so distorted when using Miraco series scanners and it was since the day one of the release.
It is good to capture extra area to cut it off later leaving around 20-30% overlap only .
