With the Ultra there are now three ways to connect to your workstation, the first two work with the pro but the third is new for the ultra it seems. I don’t know if it’s possible to add to the pro eventually.
Wired connection between pc and Metro Y (usb-c)
Direct wireless connection. The metro Y creates its own WiFi network and the computer connects to it. If you want to use Revo mirror, the phone also needs to connect to the scanner.
WiFi client mode, the metro y ultra connects to an existing wifi network. The PC and phone for mirroring need to be connected to the same network but it doesn’t have to be through WiFi necessarily. In my case it looks like this: home WiFi for all my devices with UniFi access points and a UDM Pro as my router. Pc is connected to router with RJ45 cord, WiFi hotspots are WiFi6 capable and distributed throughout the house. Phone is connected to home WiFi and metro y ultra connects to that same WiFi network. I can now walk through the whole house and scan anywhere my WiFi reaches. This should also work through a VPN connection if your internet is fast enough.
That means I can have my powerful workstation in my office, walk 20 meters to my garage and scan stuff there without having to bring a laptop with me.
Is there any documentation available? I’ve just got my Metro Y Ultra, plugged in via USB-C to start with, setup wifi client mode, put in the SSID/Password and I don’t see any connection to my wifi. Is there a way to view any logs to see why it didn’t connect from the device side?
Actually I think I found whatever the issue was, needed to set the country/region on the host tab, before setting the client mode settings. After that it seems to work.
