Portable Global Marker panel

Hi,

I really like the speed and covenience of using global markers when scanning.

It is NOT recommended to use the flexible plastic marker sheets when using the MetroYPro, so I came up with another solution. I made a folding panel from two Composite Aluminium boards and covered them with reflective stickers.

I scanned the flat panels using the Global Marker Scan mode, then saved the Marker file for later use.

If I need to scan something, I just place it on the panels, then load the Marker file before scanning the point cloud.

What do you think ?

Funny… I want to do the same thing, only with black photo cardboard
It’s supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

Hi Bifi, that should work. My understanding is that the Global marker panels need to be as rigid and “Repeatable” as possible so I went with the Composite aluminium panels.

They also happen to be my old “David 3D Scanner” background corner panels that I made many years ago  (You might need to google that ancient 3D scanning system, you will see how advanced current 3D scanners are

I use the same panels , one in black others in silver . But not for Global marker mode as the joint can be problematic .

Hi Cath, do you think my join might not be precise enough ? It seems to work ok .

Is the final scan accuracy from the markers, or from the point cloud fusion ?

Thanks,

Mike.

Hi Mike ,

It may works fine , but over time the markers may change slightly the location because of the join , or for example uneven surface .

I added additional tape , but it would be recommended to rescan the Global markers from time to time if any issue happens.

Unless you use carbon fiber, any other material need to be rescanned from time to time .

For regular marker scanning it is ideal , for Global marker rescanning will be needed over time .
