Hi, does anyone have any feedback on what mobile phones would work ok with the Pop 4. I have an opportunity to scan some parts but can only do it remotely. No access to power and no time to set up with remote power supplies or relocate my desktop.
My iphone XR is not up to scratch. About to try a iphone 16e, but wondering if 15 pro max or 14 pro max would also be ok. Also considering Samsung S22 to S25 but they seem to go backwards in their processors so not sure what would work.
I used it with an iPhone 17 pro, performance was quite bad, very slow. Just hitting the “settings” button changing from vsel to hybrid etc in settings, then saving settings and going back to scan it would take up to a minute. Scanning, when it wouldn’t crash, said it was running at 12fps but didnt seem to be even capturing that, it’d loose tracking and was terrible.
I then tried this on an iPad pro M5, that performed quite well, was a night and day difference, I assume because it has a better GPU and faster M5 CPU than the iPhone. Although strangely it still said it was running at 12-14fps, but it didnt loose tracking and I was able to complete scans of peoples heads with it.
Thanks. I found something similar with a iPhone 16e. Took several goes to connect and quite some time, but once connected the scanning wasn’t too bad. Lost tracking a couple of times but picked it back up again pretty quick. Second attempt at connecting connecting the phone to the scanner I gave up. Wasn’t practical for me to use it.
Looks like I might be able to test it out on a fairly new Samsung over the weekend so will see if that is any improvement.
Well, I have been testing it on an iPad Pro with an M4 and have not been impressed. It seems like scans have been really poor for my attempts, granted I have not fully looked at all the settings but so far out of the box I have not had any successful scans.
It’s also worth noting as per this thread
That the mobile scan software does not have the improved hybrid mode yet, despite defaulting to hybrid mode! So make sure to manually switch to full field for a better quality scan.
