I have a MetroX that I’ve used a couple dozen times. So, not a pro by any means.
My nephew works for a company that restores old aircraft. They have an interest in scanning interior parts for reproduction. The first application is metal floor panels in a B23 Dragon. Here’s an example to give you an idea of size:
We’ve not seen the floor panels yet but I’m guessing they are metal with some kind of non-skid pattern built into them. Maybe something like this (just a guess):
I’ll be visiting him in the next few weeks with my MetroX just to give it a go. But I’m not looking forward to putting down a bunch of markers. If the floor panels work out I imagine they’ll want to scan just about everything in the interior since they often do complete restorations. Questions -
- Would the TrackIt be a better scanner for this type of work than the MetroX?
- Is it likely it would be able to scan in a space like this? I have no idea what the space requirements are.
- If the floor panels are textured but the texture is a regular pattern like the example above, are we going to have to use markers regardless of the scanner?
TIA
