FPS during Scanning

Hello @ all,
I’am relativ new to the scanning universe and ordered at KS the Metro X.

So far so good most things are ok. But i was wondering about the FPS…during the Crossline Lasermode my Laptop runs with 45-48fps. During fullfield scan (less points per s, if i’am right) it’s only running with 12-13fps.

Are there any settings which i have to take into account?

Hi!
You are wrong :slightly_smiling_face: In full field mode MetroX captures much more points/frame compared to laser line modes! Therefore lower fps.

If you scan same frame count and fuse at same point distance , you’ll get much more fused points for full field scan.

Those frame rates are correct.

The frame rate is correct
The Full filed capture 7 million points per sec, the Lesser mode 800.000 so it’s need faster frame rate .

Ok, catch it. Thank you. Is someone able to scan in full field mode with > 20 fps?
What kind of pc specs do i need for this?

No, that is the maximum and you don’t need more .
You can completely scan one full angle of an object using 12 frames , you don’t need 20 frames per second using Full Field , it will not improve anything , after processing only 10% will be used anyway .

Fewer frames are probably actually better (I’ve found that to be the case at least)…

More frames don’t make things better, lots of frames is great when using handheld scanning to keep good tracking , for model itself 90% of the total frames will be reduced in final point cloud .

So 36 frames or 360 makes no difference in final scan , less is actually better for final processing and calculation, resulting in match cleaner and more detailed scan with less artifacts

Ok, but escpecially the tracking in Full field mode is currently trashi compared to other scanner.
I’am not that tech expert but would this be a advantage to increase the FPS but only save the points of 1/4 of the frames? For my understanding that would be help for tracking.

If there are no features nothing can help it out . Use global marker mode if you have issue with tracking your object , that’s what is was made for .
For free hand scanning in feature mode your object needs unique feature at least each 3cm apart always visible .
How smaller the FOV how more features is needed for tracking .
