Can the POP 3 PLUS Accurately Scan Trading Cards for Surface Defects?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering using the POP 3 PLUS 3D scanner for a card grading business, and I was wondering if it’s capable of scanning small, flat objects like Pokémon or other collectible trading cards with enough precision to detect surface defects (e.g., scratches, dents, print lines).

Has anyone tried using the POP 3 PLUS for similar use cases? I’m particularly curious about the scanner’s resolution, lighting setup, and ability to capture minute surface imperfections that are relevant for grading cards. Would it be suitable for this application, or is there another Revopoint model you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hi @TLRMC6

Unless the cards have deeper damages I don’t think you can.
Not even $27.000 scanner can do that unless the relief is at least comparable to a coin. I mean already visible by an eye or detected by touch.

The best highest accuracy and resolution is MINI 2 then MetroX in Auto mode with single shot and the new Trackit .

On top if the card has colorful contrast surface it will affect the level in scanning creating false positive relief between very contrasting colors and outlines.

You need a scanner that can capture at least 10 microns or below and they are no cheap.
