Feature request: ability to remove/edit point cloud BEFORE fusion

I scan a lot of small objects which means that the scan will inevitably pick up more of the surrounding then needed. Fusion processing would be a lot faster if we could simply delete the extra scan data that is clearly not the main object before going through the fusion processing.

Thanks

Even better: if we could edit the point cloud mid scan. Pause scan → delete non important points → resume scan

I agree. I use the tracker and a lot of the scan you throw away. So to save time it would make sense to delete area’s you don’t need before fusion.

I have asked this feature for over a year, I don’t think they will ever listen. Every time when I tried to scan something big with the turn table, it always picked up tons of noise in the background, and ending up the useless point cloud is 10 times bigger than the useful point cloud, and I wasted hours to fused those trash points that are useless.

I did ask as well for this feature but it is not yet implemented, example, scanning a PS4 joystick or any for that matter, the joystick part is always deleted after fusion, but some other parts that aren’t meant to be part of the final scan is still there.

For me it’s getting to the point where fusion is what takes the longest so I’ll try to scan everything I need to scan during the day and leave the fusion batch processing overnight. This is not ideal especially if you’re on location at a client’s location and you want to see the results of your scan right away. This fusion process makes things incredibly slow.
