The continuous updates of RevoScan5 keep Revopoint’s “older” models reliable and able to compete with new scanners that other brands are selling now! Taking advantage of the RevoScan5 Challenge, I wanted to “have some fun” and create a Christmas decoration with my trusty MINI1, which is still highly performant and more than usable for both professional and recreational purposes.
I scanned a small nativity scene, measuring 70x60x28mm. The scan was done with the subject placed on a turntable and the scanner mounted on an adjustable arm. The scan was completed in one session, with 4 repositioning of the scanner and 1 repositioning of the subject. The point cloud was fused in Advanced mode at 0.9mm, and after a quick cleanup in RevoScan5, the mesh was created at level 6 with a resolution of 0.9mm. The finished model was imported into PrusaSlicer for a quick orientation and cutting operation, since the original model doesn’t have perpendicular surfaces; this step was done to facilitate printing.
The next phase involved importing the model into MeshMixer to add a loop for hanging the decoration on the tree. After processing, the file was loaded into BambuStudio and printed on the Bambulab X1C. Once printed, the piece was cleaned and painted with acrylic colors. After drying, all that was left was to place our decoration on the Christmas tree! Nothing simpler!
Of course, this was just for fun, but I assure you that the MINI1, with the new RevoScan5, still has so much to offer, proving to be a perfectly usable and performant scanner!
It’s truly reassuring for a user to know that a product purchased a few years ago remains fully compatible with new software versions, without being forced to replace the scanner just because it’s no longer supported.
I hope you enjoy it.
