AMD 9900X3D Performance, Metro 5.8.4

Hi @Yan the update did not improved much Intel CPU it was specifically for AMD and many swear it is game changer

I only use intel CPU on all my machines but I was able to use laser mode on my old i7 8th Gen CPU Windows tablet after Windows update yesterday , it never worked before , of course the laser frames are slow and choppy but it still works .. and before it always crashed the moment I switched to the laser mode .

Something improved for sure… However on my laptop my i9 14th Gen CPU was considered as " POOR" after testing performance yet the frame rate is exactly as with GPU acceleration. So I consider it a false diagnostic.

The laser fusing is still 7-8% and for obvious reason ,and if you want it to be faster it will consume all your available RAM. Hopefully it going to be resolved soon.

The rest of the modes 78-85% but the RAM usage is also high and too often reach the maximum with a lot of frames or when scanning a color.

I did a small investigation, and maybe this will help other people.

I tested the fusion of point clouds coming from different scanning methods:

  • Laser mode,

  • Features mode with masks,

  • Features mode without markers.

For about 80% of the computation time, all CPU cores are used.
But during the remaining 20%, the software only uses 1 to 4 cores to finish the fusion.

I also noticed another behavior:
when I scan in Laser mode and run the high‑quality fusion, in this specific case the CPU usage does not exceed 12%, and the software does not use more than 4 cores.

Same issue on the Intel 13600KF. The updates improved performance on AMD, but they do not fix the multitasking problem in Revo Metro.

I get the same behaviour on a 9900x3d and laser fusion on a pop4

To be honest the fusing time when scanning using POP 4 and color tracking is enormous, maybe 4-5 times longer than scanning without color tracking even with i9 14th Gen, and maybe the longest processing time to date. I did reported it all already to the dev.team , hopefully they come with better solution by the next release.

I also noticed poor parallelization with 7950x3d and laser scanning. Most calculations are done using only couple of frequency cores. GPU is not used much either.

Not a problem, since scanning performance is 100+fps in laser mode, just calculations in fusion and other stuff is kinda slow and could use more cores to run them faster (takes couple of minutes on larger models).

ps. RAM is the only thing that is used without limits, the rest is not critical.

If the CPU run on the full power your system RAM would run out of memory .
That is why it is slow not because of your CPU , especially for scans that was scanned using Laser mode . The AMD can get slightly slower compared to Intel but laser scans processing is very slow and it has nothing to do with the technical issue but rather trying preserving the resource to avoid crashing .

the process is not typical , it need times .

so any fix on the core usage issue? and is it the OS issue or software itself issue?

It is not exactly core issue , it is just designed this way and there is no news at this moment when it going to be improved .

so just fusion/ mesh/ and merge time will be depends on single core speed, not multithreads at this stage?:woman_bowing: because it take ages for do all the process, similar time (14mins and 12 min) when using amd Zen1 or 13Gen i7

I have i9 14th Gen and still need 11 min even with Full Field and CPU runs at 76% .

The issue with ADM also have to do with Windows , Microsoft updated it recently to make things little faster but AMD is still little behind in resources . So not completely Revopoint’s fault here but they make their best to improve it.

I7 13Gen is the minimal required CPU so it will be much slower than the recommended CPU .

Fusion ~8min mark. 7950X utilizes a lot of cores. Tried with my scans with 1mm fast fusion and 7950X3D use only 1-2 cores… The only difference in video is 2x RAM size (but he used only 16GB, so should not be an issue)

So not using more threads on X3D cpu is confusing…

Update: tried mobile scanning using full field scan, imported to PC and fusion now uses way more cores (upto ~70% CPU). So underutilization is with laser scans.

I would like very much some help, got my pop 4 today. So far can´t use it. The app breaks when I try to do calibration or when I try to do some scaning. Already gave the premissions for the camera, tried to turn the cable 180º, disable the firewall for the app and NOTHING. Corrently my laptop is an MSI with CPU AMD Rysen 9 7945HX and GPU Nvidia RTX5070 Ti, which is more then enought according with the Revoscan. Can someone HELP PLZ!

Full Field uses different kind of technology and much less frames and resources so the processing is much faster to even 76% on my laptop.

Laser uses different technology and lots of very fine frames , so the processing is different, much longer and uses higher value of RAM. If the CPU where running at 76% you would run out of RAM short after starting the processing .
It is just complicated and not so straight forward.
