I recently drove 4500km across Australia to work on a couple of 3D scanning projects in Western Australia, one of the projects was the scanning of a full size prototype aeroplane for AeroJack in Perth WA.
These guys build Aeroplanes ! (Airplanes for American readers) including RedBull racing aircraft.
For me, this was like being a kid in a candy shop, one filled with carbon fibre, epoxy resin and huge horsepower Aero engines.
Jack has a prototype aircraft that needed scanning, so we, (lindsay Clarke) and myself, scanned it using the Revopoint Trackit SR over 2 days.
The aircraft was in parts being prepped for painting which made things a lot easier.
The images below are from the scanning process and the assembled scans (plus modeled parts) in Rhino 3D V8
