Yes it is just fused , is that not great for a point cloud ? Nice and clean without any needs for cleaning . MetroX produce fantastic clean and smooth surface scans out the box .

It’s great to see the scans he’s delivering. We’d love to see more of that and also technical components or similar items.

@PUTV can you compare the scanning process with MetroX to other scanners you have used? I have never owned a 3D scanner nor ever scanned anything so I don’t think it will matter for me, but watching the Livestream it seemed like the process to scan with MetroX might be more labor intensive than with other scanners. Is it? If so, is it frustratingly more difficult? I have read complaints about the raptor that the field of view is small. Is that the same with MetroX as well? Just curious your thoughts.

Hi @misterpepper laser scanning is different that scanning using Structure Light mode , it is more time consuming because you need to collect s lot of data with thinner frames than Structured light . But MetroX uses also Structured Light so it is as fast as the rest of the Revipoint scanners .

In both cases it is not more difficult than any other scanner , if you never used any before it will not really matter for you .

I recommend you watch some videos in the tutorial section of the forum to see how the process works . But if you still not got your pledge I recommend you do , because for that price it is really s stealer and already my favorite 3D scanner .

I got my pledge in early. I’ve been waiting for a 3D scanner to come out that ticks enough boxes for me. I was tempted by the Ein-star, but this looks like it will be a bigger leap forward than that was, at a much better price to boot. There are still a lot of unknowns but hopefully more info starts trickling out soon. I appreciate you answering my questions.

It have 62 lines Structures Light mode so for a beginner it is a friendly mode to do things quick without learning too much , after you master that you can get deeper into Laser modes .

Personally I prefer Structured Light mode as it is fast and produce very nice results so personally for my work favorite .

Do all 3 modes share the same working distance (200-400mm)?

The spec sheet lists Multi-line laser scan speed at 800,000 points per second. Is that the same for both the cross and parallel Laser modes?

Can you explain the function of the Fill lights? Is that just to illuminate the work to better see and is blue so as to not interfere with the scans?

Thank you for your answers so far!

Yes all modes support it .

I believe this one is for the Cross mode , the Parallel mode have only 7 lines so less points per second but more detailed .
The 64 lines mode have 7 millions points per sec .

Yes it is also for calibration and helping out recognize the markers , that are the 12 LEDs around the Depth sensors .

PUTV,
Thank you for those answers that explains a good bit.

I noticed the specification list was removed from Kickstarter. Was there some error or do you have some idea what might be changing on that list, if anything?

3 to 6 mm ( inner ⭕) for smaller objects I recommend 3 mm circle , for medium to 6 mm inner circle

Can you explain why laser scanning mode is more demanding on HW specs than SLLP? My naïve assumption was that it is the other way around, as there is muuuuch more data to be crunched per frame.

Also: why is cross laser scanning less detailed compared to lines? Just because the same number of points is taken per frame (more lines, same amount of points → less density) or is there something else to it?

BTW: Never owned or used a scanner by now, maybe using it would make it obvious. Sorry for the beginners question

Another question: The laser being of class 2M, could this lead to import problems, e.g. to EU or to Switzerland? Laser pointers of this class will be destroyed at customs. Do you have any information on that? I do know that this is not a laser pointer, but will the customs guys know, too?

I am from Switzerland, too and I don’ t worry about that. The shipping will be declared properly (as always) and duty people are professionals. You will get you metroX for sure🙂

> [@Simon76](#):

SLLP don’t need markers at all , it can scan just objects full of features and use it as tracker , it also use 64 lines what cover the full field of view .

Laser modes do not cover the FOV it collects a simple points , the laser don’t get activated unless it don’t see markers , it also can’t scan where it don’t detect markers so each area require a lot of markers , Laser mode has complete different workflow since the area it capture is very fine you need to move the laser back and forth like you iron a wrinkled shirt 😆

I tested and both versions modes captured the details at the same level and accuracy .
But Cross Laser should be used to capture bigger flatter surfaces as it can capture it much faster so less detailed scanning of featureless objects , but you can scan any objects .

I don’t know nothing about that but 3D scanners are not point lasers , plus you can’t fire it into human face or anything else unless you place markers on it .
There is lots of laser scanners in the industry and in the market I don’t believe Switzerland forbid them .

Well, I guess you can in SLLP mode? But I see that it makes sense to forbid laser pointers of this class (I think it is more because of deliberate misuse) while measuring devices are allowed - which they are, of course, in Switzerland

Sorry I still don’t fully get it concerning why HW specs for laser mode are so much higher. From your answer I understand that marker detection itself is computationally very “expensive”? I was about to ask now if marker based SLLP mode is therefore also very demanding. But am I right in the assumption that the expensive thing in laser mode is the high frame rate, at which the marker alignment needs to be done? I guess in SLLP mode the frame rate is much lower?

</div>

The frame size of a laser is a “hair” size , the SLLP is covering everything at once , now you need to capture the area with think laser what requires 10.000 frames not 369 frames … you need more time and better system to perform this task and proper marker placement, Laser do not recognize features it capture points one by one building the whole scan so it need good stabilization .
