Revo Metro Scan Alignment Feature Request

Hi,

I have the inspire 2 and overall I really like it and I am quite impressed with the overall accuracy and performance, it’s got great features at the price point. I am struggling a little bit with aligning scans, perhaps there is a feature I haven’t used properly or revo metro doesn’t have this but the issues are:

  1. Multiple scans using the same global marker file don’t stay in place. So I have a global marker file and two seperate scans of a relatively featureless part (fender in this case). When I go to merge the scans, I just want to leave the scans in place and merge them because the global markers have already kept them in alignment. But I have no options for this. Using the “Feature” function gets it wrong and moves them out of alignment and “Manual alignment” isn’t accurate either becuase there are very few clear features to peform the alignment. I just want to merge the scan data in place.
  2. Align scans using markers. Again, when making multiple scans using markers in the same position on the same part (perhaps not as part of a global scan) I would like to select the markers as the references for alignment. I have tried this on the part as you can sort of see the bumps but it’s not so accurate. Surely if the scan already knows the marker positions I can just select 3 or more highlighted markers and the scan should align to the accuracy of the marker coordinates. Revo metro doesn’t appear to have an easy to use “marker alignment” mode.
  3. Setting the X,Y and Z coordinate frame for exporting. I know Revo provide advanced tools for this in other paid software and anything to create reference frames using 3 points etc would be great. But failing that a really basic way to align a scan just by fixing the coordinate frame in the view and then rotating, panning etc the part against that fixed frame would make a lot of difference to get it closer so scans come out in a rough alignment.

Anyway overall pretty happy with it. Just some feedback.

These sound like very reasonable improvements, especially for users working with larger or featureless parts. Marker-based alignment and a true “merge in place” option would make the workflow much smoother and avoid unnecessary manual adjustments. The coordinate frame tools would also be a great addition for cleaner exports.
