Hello,PopUpTheVolume

I have a question for you experienced scaners.

I currently own a revopoint mini.
I’m very happy with the scan results, but blue light is visible light, so I can’t ask models to scan their faces.

So I’m thinking of buying a pop2, do you think the pop2 is worth getting for face scanning?

I’ll answer this. Absolutely it is.
I have the Mini and the Pop2. The Pop2 gets more use despite being worse on paper. The mini is great for… mini things, and when I need a ton of detail. For everything else I use the Pop2.

Thank you for answering.

I have never seen the actual pop2, so I don’t know much about the product.

The mini emits a visible blue light all the time, does the pop2 emit a visible light?
That’s more of a concern than performance.

POP2 use infrared invisible light and safe as well , you will be fine scanning your models faces with .
MINI Blue light is also Class 1 safe laser but some people don’t feel comfortable with blinking blue light in their faces so you going to be better of with POP2.

Personally I prefer POP2 for that job .

I 3D modelled some tracking markers that work well to stop the scanners losing track. you can download them for free from my Dropbox account.

I got a POP2 after I tried MINI, and I absolutely recommend it. I use it all the time!
Like @Rilot said, MINI is best for very small objects or things that require a lot of detail. Other than that, POP 2 is your best friend 😉

Hi @PUTV thank you for the reply. I was trying to reply below the post where you have used normal and displaced maps on the model Athena to add details to the 6K poly model. The reply kept showing up at the bottom of the thread and I don’t know why. I know you are always busy but I am adding my name to the replies of people who would be interested to see the workflow in the future. Thank you.

I scanned a Jiffy box too! So iconic. But I used photogrammetry. I’m considering a used Pop 2 for $250. Your work is the only consistently decent images I have seen using the Pop 2. You must RTFM and think - rather than creating some janky set-up that ‘might’ look good in a video. And using a tripod must really help. Thanks - still not sure if I’m going to buy.

Jiffy Box is my texture testing object I use for almost 3 years now 😂

If you go for POP2 at $250 , I recommend you go for Inspire then , check my inspire Showcase , it need little extra light for color but so much better since it already have white balance and exposure settings what is crucial for scanning textures as you want manual settings .

I prefer now 100% Inspire vs POP2 , so much more fun scanning various objects and less tracking issues , I would call it POP2+ on steroids .

And yes scanning small objects with turntable and tripod is crucial to minimize the shaking while scanning for best details in scans and color, to avoid blurred frames and photos.
Scanning is an Art , it require patience and practice , but since you doing photogrammetry you know exactly what I am talking about.

Thanks so much for speedy reply. I can get a used Inspire for $298.00 or a used Range for $275.00. I am going to be using this for making 3D printed ‘head & shoulder’ busts. Addin the Pop 3 to that lineup which would be best. I have no problems with manual controls and probably prefer that.

They all use the same software right?

Yes, it’s one software (Revo Scan)to rule them all! 😁
Only MetroX has it own software version.

If you got for scanning Head -Bust go with Range , preferably Range 2 , if you add POP3 to the line , you will get better resolution and details of the main face as well.
Scan the base with Range , later Face with POP3 and merge them together in one app/software

Range will allow you to scan full body in under 2 min on big turntable .

And if your budged allows, you can forget about the 2 above and go with MIRACO and have them both in one device scanning face in Near mode for details and the rest in Far mode.
What is of course the best solution , mobile and not need computer or phones while not in studio to capture what you need.
