Issues Achieving High-Precision Dental Scans with Revopoint Mini 2 and Revo Scan 5

I am a dental technician, and I scan plaster dental models. My work requires the highest possible precision, so I need scan accuracy of 0.02 mm.

I have been trying to use Revo Scan 5, but I cannot obtain clean scans. During the scan, the point cloud begins to drift, with the detected points appearing to be “dragged out.” As a result, the final point cloud becomes distorted, messy, and misaligned.

The scanner has been calibrated before scanning.

My scanning setup

  • Plaster dental model on the turntable.
  • Turntable rotating slowly.
  • Scanner positioned at approximately a 45° angle.
  • Mild natural daylight.
  • Scanner calibrated.

Software

  • Revo Scan 5.5.5

Scan workflow

  • One complete rotation only.
  • Approximately 400–600 captured frames.

Fusion settings

  • Resolution: 0.02 mm
  • Isolation: 15%
  • Overlap: 0.10 mm

I have attached screenshots of the scan results, along with my laptop specifications.

Has anyone experienced similar point cloud drifting with dental models? Are there any settings or workflow changes that could help achieve clean, high-precision scans at 0.02 mm?

Use marker tracking or even better, global marker tracking instead of feature tracking!

AaIvan said already , use markers since they are already in your turntable plate to avoid drifting .

However I would suggest you to use Single shot mode to get the best results and stabilization .
Take minimal 36 pictures per each full 369 degrees angle ( scanner position )

Mesh it at the same settings as you use guiding so if fused at 0.02mm resolution , mesh it after cleaning the scan at GRID size of 0.02mm no more or less.
