How important is the RGB camera for non-color scans?

I was just wondering, is the RBG camera adjustment relevant at all when doing no color scans? Does it actually use that camera at all for the scanning without color is it, and it’s adjustment, something I can ignore?

Also, depending on that answer, how do you all manage light when scanning? Do you use aux lights pointed at the turntable? Do you use a dimmer less bright room? I know this obviously is dependant on my first question.

Typically for these types of scanners, the RGB camera is used to track the motion of the scanner by looking at key points in the image. If the camera is not getting good image quality, the software may not be able to keep the scans registered.
