As part of my Revopoint Road Trip to the West Coast of Australia, I was asked to help out the guys building the AI5R Rocket Car by scanning components while they were doing a rebuild on the car.
The car will be fitted with a totally new Fuel and Rocket Engine system, so the existing structure needed to be carefully documented. My good friend Lindsay Clarke, who is based in Perth, did the bulk of the scanning, using the Revopoint Trackit SR.
We had a few connection issues at first, which seemed to be caused by mobile phones in close proximity to the scanner. The scanner performed extremely well, considering most of the surfaces were shiny blue, polished metal or painted black.
The car is over 15m long !! planned record speed of 1000 mph (1600kph) and will hopefully attempt the record next year.
I will be posting a lot more about scanning this car in the near future.
