Since I always find it annoying to remove or reapply all the 3D markers, I had the idea to build a chain to which all the scan markers could be attached. And, as I am, I immediately made a prototype and wanted to show you the results.

 ![20241007_125344](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/revopoint3d/original/3X/7/1/71f4883c517a9e74ba851659eaaa241aef13ffd9.jpeg)

What should be noted is that I used a regular black sewing thread here. Of course, a smoother, thinner thread, for example made of nylon and black, would be better. But the first results look pretty good, and the markers are 3mm markers.

 ![image](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/revopoint3d/original/3X/f/3/f37b21fcff8ba58107ccf62c39713311c5546a69.jpeg)
 ![Screenshot 2024-10-07 123730](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/revopoint3d/original/3X/f/8/f82c59aa011fe97842c516454501f810d663984f.png)

It could be even better for larger objects. The advantages are that you don’t have to stick everything on individually, and when removing, you can simply take the chain again. For round objects, you can simply wrap it around and also let it hang down if you have a hollow space, and so on.

 ![20241007_131741](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/revopoint3d/original/3X/2/a/2a2e9932cce02a9eba99866cf99de05fb27ee6a4.jpeg)

What do you think of this idea? I would love to hear your feedback.

i did one with fishing strings and copper wire ( disassembled ethernet cable) , but both strings was able to capture with both Range and mini, its take too much time to clean up afterwards, do you have similar experience?

Use Global markers … no cleaning needed .
We all did this on some point in time .
But you know , if you have to charge for a scan $800 it is worthy .

Yes, I have the same experience, but since I’m redesigning anyway, it doesn’t bother me.
Nevertheless, I would like to find a way to prevent this. As I said, I was thinking of using nylon cords. I will do a few more experiments with that.

Maybe it would be better if the strings were not on the object but I made the mark a little thicker so that the strings were in the air?

In the screenshot you see of the part I used global markers, but unfortunately you can still see a clear line and the marks are also highlighted.

Because you used a black cotton that is visible to infrared , use black nylon or transparent thread .

With Global markers I mean markers not placed on the object itself , but rather around the object , this kind of marker net is good for scanning car hood where is a lot of flat surface , not small objects .

Just taking from my own experience, we all was there on some point in time , nothing is new anymore and old get reinvented .

Yes, I would like to test the nylon cord. I also think it is useful for the mini if you have higher objects. As I said, I’m reconstructing the part anyway… That doesn’t bother me.

If I make all the marks on my print bed then I have problems as soon as I want to scan something higher. I also have extra towers for this but I wanted to try something out even if it already exists and my own experience together.

 ![20241007_154229](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/revopoint3d/original/3X/c/e/ce2175384a98bca7471a46c1a65874e288c7a94a.jpeg)

And here is an example where I lost tracking when I wanted to scan from the side upwards because there were only markers at the bottom. So I thought it would be practical to have a net or chain.

Btw I ordered a 0.1mm nylon thread.

You should order small markers 3mm for Mini as well , remember max distance for markers is 3 cm apart when scanning with MINI

I said old things get reinvented, and that is a positive thing , you do what is needed for you and nothing wrong with it .
Keep up the good work , someone else may get inspired again …

I like them too, but the problem is that they have the same dimensions at the top, which leads to this issue.

The problem is that the markers are too much in the same pattern and the top have too great distance from each other , MINI require max 3 cm distance between markers in unique pattern
The software get simply confused .

the distance is fine (about 1cm) but yeah the pattern is always the same, thats why a chain is even better…

I don’t see the top markets are 1 cm apart ? Talking about the top one , if you lose tracking it is sadly not working .

Scanning objects like that is very difficult, normally this type are direct modeled in place of scanned , much faster .

The thing was just lying on my desk and I put it on for a test, I would definitely model something like that straight away.

Regarding the markers, I thought you meant the distance in the tower itself, but yes the towers are too far away.

The cord will arrive tomorrow so that I can test the new chain on Thursday.

I like using this marker tower for having more random pattern or even use it for feature tracking because of its irregular shape. These are 6mm markers on it.

> Hi I am a fan of these 3d printed scanning towers.I put miraco scanning markers and use them upright or lying down depending on shape and size of the object for great tracking in marker mode (and even feature mode). you can download them for free here but you need a free account: What kind of editing do you want to do with stl or obj? Depending on editing needs there are different (free) softwares available.

You can make one of these…
I used a 3D printer to make the pylons. This is version one with short pylons, I made taller ones later so the thread doesnt touch the surface.
I posted a thread somewhere a few months ago.

I’ve already seen that and that was one of my inspirations, thank you very much.

I have actually already looked around for a net and would use a nylon bird net. I would simply stick the tag directly on, like I did with the string, to minimize the effort.
